Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes

Consider opening an issue / feature request here. If it’s something you’d like to have, the developers can look into it with that.

Proof? Obviously not. But everything that’s been happening is exactly what happened with Boxee before it got acquired and went to crap.

I cannot justify paying double what it was. I can’t even justify the $30 a year, I mean what does Tract even do? what’s they’re main purpose? How can they justify $60 bucks a year & explain why they want to charge this amount?
No way am I paying $60 a year, that’s like throwing $$ out the window in my opinion.

I’m really conflicted. I’ve been VIP for 6 years, I’ve got automated tracking and have everything down to the minute tracked for the last 6 years. I’m not turning my nose up at $5 a month, but it does feel like I’m getting ripped off now that the price is doubling and effectively nothing has changed. Mine doesn’t renew until July, so I guess I have some time to think…

7 years here. I never even thought about cancelling my subscription before. The app is amazing, the website, the app, what the API does, and all the other apps that connect with Trakt TV.
But then, a 2x (100%) increase?
Wtf? Is this a joke? If it were 10 USD, I wouldn’t complain, but DOUBLE the value?
They are insane.

oh my i totally forgot about the API, i have a personal application that i use on my computer for doing crazy stuff with my collection. Crap! am conflicted more now.

I mean, I would stay if they rolled the price back. I have too much time and data sunk into this to just abandon it because they hurt my feelings. Don’t see that happening though, they’ve seen the reactions to other recent changes, they had to know a reaction like this was coming

mine was like that too but I even have second thoughts, i cancelled without thinking about this.
Well, I think they will not charge you then, and the subscription will be automatically cancelled. Thats my opinion tho

Any alternative tracking recommendations?

I just set up Yamtrack. It’s not that polished as trakt, but at least I could import my trakt history (not all yet, but there is an issue on github). Dev is doing a great job and I think, this might be a viable alternative for the future

Alongside Yamtrack there’s Ryot and MediaTracker, all open source. I’ll be interested to see if one of them jumps on this opportunity to be the best Trakt replacement.

(It’s also possible they’ll all just be good alternatives in their own ways!)

the radio silence since announcement, and the lack of trust are the real damage done here. They felt it was fine to give some people a 400% increase in costs, what says they wont just do that again. that’s my big concern now, they have shown their cards and then gone silent. if they had done a 10%, christ, even a 20% increase most people wouldn’t have cared, they could probably have done another 10% next year as well and no one would have blinked an eye.

I’ve exported my data, but have made no other actions right now, will see how it all plays our first

13 year VIP here. I’ve had Trakt scrobbling my Plex and Infuse plays, but not really paying much attention to any new functionality. Fun to drop by every once in a while and see some stats. Never even considered canceling.

All this has done has made me actually think about if Trakt is actually something I need. And the answer is no. Canceled today. Was fun while it lasted.

What about SIMKL? Is it good?

Yeah SImkl is good I use it since 4 years now.

This feels worse than simply breaking the trust. This is a betrayal that definitely has me looking into alternatives. Even if this is walked back, I think there’s not much that can be done in the short term to re-earn this trust.

The 4x price increase is pretty insane. Where is the 4x return in value? Also, this email is such a short notice. Email received yesterday for a 2x or (4x for OGs) increase in price in 1 week. That’s crazy! I wonder what the min-max analysis was on this, since there’s no way nobody didn’t anticipate a swath of cancellations.

This is dirty. I wonder if it’s being acquired.

Yeah, I’m out too. I like trakt and will continue to use the free version until the make that unusable or move too much behind the paywall. But I can’t justify that cost for what trakt does.

I’ve been a VIP for 10 years, so I’ve paid about $300 to trakt in that time. And I’ve been thinking, if they offered me a lifetime sub for another $300 right now, I wouldn’t even take them up on it. Would anyone else?

Their business choices the last 6 month or so are very concerning to me that I don’t even know they will still be a sustainable company offering a good, reliable service in 3 years, let alone another 10.

They’ve lost so much of the trust and faith I’ve had in them in a tragically short amount of time.

Another one out!!

After being VIP for more than 7 years, I’ve always considered the $30 more like a donation for the work and effort than a payment for features – 90% of which I’m not even interested in.

I’ll keep using the free version while I look for a replacement, where I’ll gladly contribute financially again if their subscriptions are reasonably priced.

A 400% increase over two years? Yea, no. You could have had some of my money, now you can have none of my money. Been a VIP since 2011 too. See ya.
