What a bad timing. My subscription renews tomorrow for $60, even though they say the changes take effect on May 20th. I don’t have much time to decide. I only use it to mark watched shows and movies, and to have calendar entries (iCal). Reading the forum and seeing what the team is doing, the future really doesn’t look promising.
they for sure are selling our data, but who really cares?

I am tracking that movie/show, since I’ve already watched it or I plan to watch it.
any chance this is there way of shutting the site down? Perhaps they are tired of running it, they figure a hail mary approach of, either we start making good money or we push users away and shut down due do low numbers.

Yeah, Justin posted a few replies, some snarky, in the beginning and then fell silent. I have been a VIP for 11 years and a user before that. I stuck with them through their stumbles only to be spit on and slapped in the face with this BS.
Makes me wonder about the possibility of a pending buy out made more attractive by the promise of a bunch of users at the new pricing.
Eh I actually don’t see this. I think investors would actually want tiers and not uniform pricing for a subscription service. This is all Justin.
i think it’s to just “boost the value” of the company kinda like when companies try to go IPO. but this went south for Justin and trakt instead.

Seriously, I am only a supporter because I think the project is great and I want it to survive. There’s nothing in return for a doubling of the price so I will become a freeloader instead.

5+ year subscriber, just cancelled. Yamtrack seems pretty cool, will delete my Trakt account in a few weeks if Yamtrack sticks.
I’ll be leaving also once my membership runs out 100% price increase, I don’t use the service to warrant such a price increase
I found out via Reddit. I received no notification from Trakt that I was going to be paying double on May 20 (my renewal date). I’m not agreeing to a double price w/4 days notice - based on the fact their communication absolutely sucks. No thank you very much, but you can consider me an ex-VIP member now with service like that.

12 years and I’ll probably have to cancel. I too am lucky to still be on an OG plan, so a 4x increase is far too much to swallow. The only VIP feature I really use is the auto scrobble from Plex. I can’t justify $60USD a year (which is currently $101NZD when converting). Really sad after supporting this site for years! A smaller increase over time would have been easier to stomach. Sorry team, sad to go, but it’s just not justifiable anymore.

To be honest even if someone at Trakt does anything with this comment or any of our comments I think the damage has been done, revert or not who’s to say they won’t try this again in the future. They’ve certainly lost the trust of a lot of the Trakt (VIP) community after the backtrack from last years promise.
Has @justin or anyone else from Trakt made any comment since all this blew up following yesterdays email? 442 posts in 24 hours, speaks volumes and shows how this (very unwelcome, misjudged and untimely) update has hit their community and surely someone needs to say something .. but I fear irreparable damage has been done and I can’t see how Trakt is going to recover from this, either financially, or to reverse the complete loss of trust from the userbase.

nope. even if justin or any of them responds to “justify” their price hike, they probably already made the final call. last time with the free users downgrade of features, they responded and just got more hate because they didn’t back down. i rather they don’t respond bc then we know for a fact their call is already final. if they respond, it should be only to apologize and to revert or change the pricing that isn’t $60/yr hike.

They silently renewed me 5 days early - so I still get the $30 pricing for another year. But I’ve turned off auto-renew for next time. Not even a notification it was paid.
