Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes

I’m done aswell. Cancelled VIP membership today. 60 bucks USD is nearly 100 bucks Australian. Ridiculous price for what it is.

Unfortunately, for me from Poland $ 60 is too much. I paid and did not even use the premium function because I have everything done by API, for free. Unless you block the API in the future, unfortunately I will be looking for competition.

Hey [Username],

I hear you — and you’re right to expect transparency from leadership, especially when changes impact the community. While I may not comment on every update personally, I’m fully involved in these decisions and deeply value the feedback we receive. This pricing update wasn’t easy, but it’s necessary to keep Trakt sustainable and evolving.

I appreciate you sticking with us, and I’ll make an effort to be more present in communications moving forward.

(This was generated by ChatGPT as a joke but is exactly what I expect tbh.)

More than 24 hours since the announcement and still no official response to all these, legitimate, complaints… but perhaps the non-response is the real answer, sadly

Been a loyal supporter for 10 years. Only ever wanted a service that tracked my watch history and automatically scrobbled plex. Trakt was perfect. Absolutely worth $30/year. Happy to pay it.

I cancelled today. It says I have until 28 November to renew.

Trakt, that’s not my deadline, it’s yours.

This being the most replied to thread on this entire forum in just a day should tell you all you need to know. They fucked up and are scared to respond because any way they try to justify this betrayal of the community will just result in more hate.

Even ignoring it is teasing to the community and creating more hate… so you might as well give a response.

They’re reading this. They reached out directly to me about my complaint on here about the front end being slow as molasses on a winter Sunday when you have filters / large lists.

I’ve already cancelled, exported everything, imported into Simkl, then doubled back and purged all my data and now will be deleting my account even though my VIP time isn’t over yet. Only took 5 minutes in Simkl to see it’ll easily do what I need it for even on the free tier and the site is a hell of a lot more responsive. I’ll probably buy a lifetime license there as that would have amount to just over 2 years of VIP here - which I would have kept paying for at 30/yr, but I damn well am not at 60.

And I’m taking another VIP with me, so that sucks - but they made their bed so lay in it.

Already cancelled recently because the decisions they are making around this product just don’t make any sense. Justin just seems to use Trakt income for random pet projects, like a podcasts app??? This is not what i was paying for

Trakt is not worth 60 per year, simple as that. Even 30 is iffy, but i use the site, so supporting it with a “donation” is cool. But 60 goes from it being supporting something you like to a product you pay for, and this is not a product i deem worthy of 60 per year. I can easily do without VIP, and if i must also without Trakt at all. There are plenty of alternatives, but even if there werent the functionality is not something essential.

For what it’s worth I’d still be using Trakt as a free user. I still love the website and concept.

Nothing comes close and im not smart enough for anything self hosted. :joy:

I honestly just use Trakt VIP for the year in review feature and Plex automatic tracking. I don’t even use their app, don’t care about anything related to that. I mostly use it with third-party things, so their API and stuff was one of the most integrated ones. The tracking is not unique to Trakt and the year in review is nice, but not $60 nice. $30 I was okay with, but I’m also probably going to cancel this outright, unfortunately.

Yeah - switching to SIMKL lifetime.

I agree 1% is not too much. As you said there will be more cancellations then posts.
Trakt is kind of standard. We need a while to find and promote the alternative. On apps too.
I plan to change main tracking service in some Kodi plugin.

Shaka, when the walls fell

I’m right here @itiswhatitis seeing as you tagged me. And yes I’ve canceled. Surprised a stalker like you didn’t bother to read some of my posts but then you probably struggle with that reading comprehension.

But the bigger question is why do you give a rat’s ass what someone else does? Why haven’t you moved on with your life away from here? Why are you so wrapped up in what others do? Get a life and move to whatever tracker software serves your purpose. I did. Which you’d know if you’d looked around here.

BTW @itiswhatitis I didn’t cancel because of the $60 pricing. I canceled because I have an issue with how Trakt still looks to a diminishing few supporters who have voluntarily paid to keep this going instead of charging whining entitled cheapskates like you a $0.99 a month basic minimum charge. There’s no good reason and it is a failing business model when you expect a few people to support 2M freeloaders who don’t do jack.

Just cancelled my subscription after over 3 years of VIP. There is no way that this product is worth double what I’ve been paying. Many of the VIP features that are rolled out are not available or not applicable to my country so I absolutely can not justify a 100% increase in fees.

Cute… Exactly when I finally decided to try out, and keep, VIP after 12 years :woman_facepalming:

Looks like @itiswhatitis is psychic.

Looks like Justin is gambling that less than 75% of the $15 a year members will cancel, and less than 50% of the $30 members.

It may even encourage a few new members to pay (or continue to pay) for VIP at $60 knowing that they are not treated any differently to anyone else.

Time will tell…

"You’ve been with us since the early days, and we’re incredibly grateful. "

Insulting to read that in an email, and have them show that gratitude by doubling the price and having no grandfathering of legacy folks who supported them from the early days..

So now they get zero instead of 30 as i also just cancelled my auto renewal
