Host Errors

So far great job, thx Justin. :+1:t3::muscle:t3:
Website as well as Beta App are loading all data and that relatively quick. Especially considering I’m in 4G with barely 2 bars right now.
I will post if any errors occur within the next days.

From being barely functional yesterday, the website is extremely responsive now, far more than I have experienced for a long time. Great job!

Watched content doesn’t have their checkmarks updated in neither the dashboard or the site of the show/movie. Fortunately they are clearly being registered correctly in history. In case anyone else wonders.

I assume this is probably related to all your work, and will eventually get fixed.

Here’s a detailed post about the ongoing performance issues. Happy to continue the discussion here as well, but wanted more details so we can share to all Trakt members.

Performance has been absolutely fantastic today. Leaps and bounds better than the past week. Great job!

I’m excited for this feature in particular.

Pretty bad host errors again this evening. 502 bad gateway responses

Hi Justin,

after roughly a month now I have to say the app is running far more stable. Some hiccups here and there but overall performance is good.

But there seems to be a bug with the ratings transmitting. For about 1-2 weeks now I always get a 504 or timeout error when I rate an episode. Doesn’t matter the show or date of time. I tried via VPN with US IP and GER IP, also within LTE network. Makes no difference.
Error message pops up after roughly 30 sec, +/- 30 sec sometimes. Sometimes I can rate after the first or the second error message, other times the rating will appear within minutes of error without me doing anything…
The rating will always immediately appear on the website though, regardless of the error in the app!

I know there’s a lot going on with the transition to TMDB and this is not a main priority, just look into it as you find the time

I don’t know if it’s related. But rating on the website has been buggy these days for me too. I rated something, whether it’s on the dashboard, or in history, or on my profile. The poster/backdrop/image gets a bit darkened and like a loading thing comes up. And it never ends. But the ratings goes through without problems.

Yes, I’m having the same problem rating. Endless loading but it counts the ratings I gave.

Also the old archived forums have been down with a 500 error for a while now.

I’m getting 502 host errors again:

After search for this show, and then trying to navigate to it.

I think there was a maintenance today, so it will probably be back in a few hours.

Yeah, the database is still an issue and we’re working to fix the performance. We had to perform some major upgrades and it’s taking a while to trace down the issue so far.

Still getting very slow responses or 502 errors. This intensifies in evening hours in Central Europe as it did the last weeks/months. Especially in the beta app. After 3pm it mostly is literally impossible to rate anything. In the Morning it usually is very responsive again.

Just fyi
Appreciate the hard work

P.S. Happy new year :fireworks::wink:

I love Trakt.tv and have been a VIP member for years. But sadly, in the last few months this has become by far the least reliable web site I have ever used.

Same, also getting 504 errors.

Yeah, was just getting 502 and 504 error messages again. I have to say this is starting to worry me. Again, to me this feels like insufficient server capacities since it’s a lot worse at times of day where potentially a lot of people use the site.

We’ve seen pretty good performance over the last 12 hours based on internal stats and our own testing. There have been a few issues, but it’s largely been a lot better from what we’ve seen.

It’s all related to the database as we mentioned on Twitter. Not really a capacity issue, but more issues with handling the extreme spikes of data and users with a ton of duplicate data being sent from some apps. We’ve implemented several tweaks, but it’s a slow process when dealing with this much data.

Since your post the performance is great.

But I’m still having the problem with rating anything in the app … especially during afternoon / evening hours. Trying to is usually followed by an error message like the following. It can take up to several minutes for the message to appear. For now I’m using the website to rate, this again at this point is just FYI :v:t3:

We are noticing some issues with ratings as well and trying to find a fix for that. Everything else seems to working pretty well based on our stats.
