What I’m really trying to solve is a way to have a single list or pageto look at whenever I think to myself “What should I watch today?” and be able to see both movies and TV shows.
The Watchlist doesn’t work because it does not includes TV shows that have already been started. That means that old shows that I only watch once in a while or shows where I watched last season are not included.
The Progress page comes close to what I want but ultimately it doesn’t work because it does not include movies.
My current solution is a custom list labeled Real Watch List that I add both movies and TV shows to. This mostly works ok, but I have to manually remove movies and completed shows from the list, and I also lose the ability to use the standard setting options that involve the stock Watchlist.
So basically, what I want is a setting for Watchlist that says “Do not automatically remove items from Watchlist when watched”.
Then with sub-options that say “Remove movies from Watchlist when watched” (current standard behavior) and “Remove Ended series when all episodes are watched.”
Or alternatively, adding the ability to add movies to Progress pages would also be very helpful.
i have exactly the same problem, i watch a lot of old tv shows that tend to have movies intwined in them (star trek, babylon 5), so sorting into aired date order doesnt work because the shows dont show watched progrss and i cant add all episodes. totally stuck on how to sort my lists so i can easily see what is net up to watch
If you search through the forum you can find I think at least three threads about this and the responses from @justin
I really wonder how there’s such an influx of people who have this same “problem” recently. Maybe there’s a new app that’s “misusing” the watchlist or something.
Watchlist is not for stuff you’re actively watching. Watchlist if stuff you plan to watch in the future but haven’t seen an episode of. As soon as you’ve seen an episode it deletes itself from the watchlist and you should use the progress page instead.
One of those threads is also me. Im yet to find a solution to my problem at all. Im soldiering through right now manually checking dates to make sure i dont miss things, but there has to be a better way that im not seeing.
Well since movies aren’t related to tv shows there’s nothing Trakt can do I think. By related I mean in some sort of universe on TMDb. It is something that’s been planned for a long time there though. So if that ever comes to fruition and also added to the API, Trakt can support universes too.
For anime I use this site called chiaki.site for watching order/release order of what’s on MyAnimeList and related directly or indirectly through other items. (Example: Fate Series / Watch Order / chiaki.site)
But I don’t think there’s a site like that for… well non-anime haha.
I completely understand that watching an episode will remove that show from the Watchlist. What I’m saying is that I wish there was a setting to prevent that because I do not want to have to look at two different pages to decide what I’m in the mood to watch - Watchlist for movies or shows I haven’t started yet, and then Progress for shows that I have started.
With all the various settings and different ways to view your lists, it really feels like an oversight that there’s not a simple way to just see everything all at once.
Though I guess my custom list is the preferred solution, so I’ll keep using that for now.
Replying to myself because I forgot to add another thought. Not sure if this should be a new thread or not.
“Watchlist is not for stuff you’re actively watching.” Ok, I don’t agree that’s how it should be, but I can kind of understand why it would be set up that way.
But then why is the Progress page limited to only TV shows? If I toggle the “Include Watchlisted” setting, then the Progress page shows me 0% watched TV shows from my Watchlist.
Why couldn’t Progress also show me 0% watched movies from my Watchlist?
If there was a setting to “Include Movies” on Progress that would solve the problem of seeing both started and not-yet-started TV shows as well as movies all on the same page.
I was going to suggest that setting to handle TV shows.
It could, but the progress page is really designed for TV only. Pretty much all of the functionality would go away and there would only be a movie poster and title and nothing else. We also have no way of ordering movies since nearly all of the sorting options are based around the shows you have started watching. Even 0% watchlisted shows have that problem.
I use “collection” for all my TV series but have it ticked to hide when watched (I also rate them).
My Kodi is mainly on computer though so maybe that’s why I don’t have this problem.
You totally want to use the watchlist in the incorrect manner. As others have said, you really need the Progress page. Your best bet is to create a private list for your own use.
I started reading this thread thinking one way but now believe there’s no reason to split watchlist and in progress. Ultimately, every movie and show on my list are things I plan to watch and are pending or underway to some degree. Instead of lists, it’d be easier to just create tags/labels for categorization/grouping.
This thread was useful. Basically the “Watchlist” doesn’t do what people think it should do, and there isn’t an option in settings to change that so that it will. Creating a personal list and then filtering the results to hide Watched is seemingly the only option when it comes to lists.
Then there’s “Progress,” that that again requires that you change the sort order because the default of “recently watched” isn’t all that useful. Edit: I see there is a setting for that!
