💬 New Trakt Feedback

My previous comment is demonstrated in this screen shot. Dates are listed against epidides. Why is that floating calendar in the top left considered necessary? It’s a dynamic calendar taking screen real estate unnecessarily

Simple question: where is History in the new version?

Trakt has never been that good for discovering new content, unless it is just looking at what is trending.

Manually, using the iOS app on my iPad.

Have never bothered with this.

Sorry, it’s not for me to spend hours of my time trying to give you feedback on something that is barely fit for alpha, letalone beta, when you have an excellent website that I was instantly drawn to the moment that I saw it a few years ago. My advice is to abandon it, spend more time maintaining the so called ‘classic’ website, and the money that you can save could be used to reduce the cost of the overpriced subscriptions.

On the lists page, the number of media items is missing from each list. Will you be reinstating this information soon?

This better be a joke!

The Trakt Lite UI is utter crap and most of us don’t want it.

Can you question your choices and ask what your members want, maybe?

I’m VIP for 13 years and all the choices you are making since couple years are stupid. Stop it and review your way of working.

If the actual trakt UI disappears or is put in maintenance mode, that’s the end of trakt. I said it here.

It looks like it was designed by someone completely new to UX design that has no idea who the core user base is or how they use the site. It feels cheap and tacky, and looks like a knock-off pirate streaming site.

For several months I’ve considered building my own UI for tracking stuff I enjoy (even started working on designs for it), and unfortunately Lite becoming the default would give me the push to finally start working on it and move away from Trakt, because Lite is not an experience I enjoy looking at. I stuck by Trakt with the price increases because I find it genuinely useful, but the new UI is not useful or enjoyable for me.

With all due respect, I can’t see how this is a logical direction to take the product, and I don’t think this would be happening if Justin still controlled Trakt. It also feels like you’re forcing a mobile UI on a desktop layout with all the horizontal stuff.

I swallowed the price increase. I think the new design is ugly and cumbersome. But the biggest issue is the functionality. All the things I use the most and like are gone or weakened.

My history page is now just a big mass of screenshots, not separated by day. No sorting, grouping, or filtering available. And screenshots instead of posters makes no sense, I can tell at a glance what I watched when I see the posters.

And why in Trakt Lite are the ratings out of 5 with no half stars? I checked a movie I rated 7, and now it shows as 4/5 in Trakt Lite.

I love that I have scrobblers that work with Trakt, I love the deep tracking system. But I also use the API a lot and download my data watches and do some of my own analysis with it.

My VIP is up in July, so we’ll see what it looks like by then. If Trakt Lite becomes the only way to use Trakt and it doesn’t have the full functionality of the current website, I am gone. And if Trakt tries to force me to use 5 stars without 1/2 star ratings, that’s a hard out for me. I’m not going to dumb down my ratings when I have years of data using the 10-star system, just because some UX designer thought 10 stars took up too much space in the new redesign.

What worries me is that you keep saying you’re working on Lite to improve functionality, etc. But you made the announcement that the new Trakt is Trakt Lite when Trakt Lite is in this state? I don’t have much confidence you’ll follow through on making Lite useful, or that you’ll keep the current “old” design around for very long.

On the home page, scroll down to current actvity and click it, it will bring up the history page. Not separated by days, no filters or sorting etc. All just jumbled together, and it doesn’t even use posters, it uses screen shots or promo pics. Also doesn’t show you what you rated it.

This design is inexcusably awful. It solves zero problems, and creates many new ones.

Kevin, or any other member of the Trakt team, please:

  1. Give us some indication that you are actually listening? I.e., say the following sentence: “We agree that (insert something specific) was an incorrect decision. It was our mistake. We will correct it.” As-is, I’m only seeing you trying to convince us that no mistakes were made - I’m sorry, but that does feel like gaslighting. Why would we provide detailed feedback if you’ve given no indication that you are willing to admit to a flaw?..
  2. Give an open questionnaire? You say that there are lots of people that like the new design - surely an open questionnaire, let’s say of forum users, will show this?.. I’m sorry, but it’s really hard to believe that people appreciate it. And relying on closed data like retention is not in any way an accurate measure of the success of the new design.
  3. Don’t remove the working, functional design?.. We paid for it, not for something new. We didn’t pay for the development of new features or designs. We paid for the old ones. Please don’t remove them?.. I understand that maintenance of legacy code is difficult. Well, it’s also necessary for retaining legacy users. That’s how maintenance works

That’s perfectly valid, I’m glad you and others find use in those features. I was going to say maybe my “never once in my life used” was exaggeration, but thinking back, I didn’t even use the schedule back when I joined in 2011 because it was already cluttered with shows that I had either recently started and was catching up on and therefore not yet interested in when new episodes were airing and just had a post-it stuck to my wall behind my computer monitor for which days the handful of currently airing shows I was interested in were releasing. Maybe I could customise it with hiding things and/or filters but tbh I’ve never looked into it because since moving on from the post-it note I’ve had a SeriesGuide widget on my phone’s homescreen filtered to just “favourite shows”.

In all honesty, I’ve never really used the Dashboard page on the site because very little of what’s on it is of personal relevance to me - I visit my main profile page to quickly check what I recently watched and glance at what/if I rated those items, I visit my History page for a deeper look and maybe filter it, I use the Progress page to check where the Plex scrobbler has left holes in my checkin history so I can manually fill the gaps in, and I’ve recently been using the Notes to keep note of which films I’ve seen in the cinema. I also use the search function frequently, and really like the statistics. I like looking up lists and filtering them to see which items I have or haven’t watched, but it’s always frustrated me how I can’t properly subscribe to a list, like, I know there’s a ‘Subscribe’ button to add someone else’s list items to my calendar but that’s not what I want, I want to add their list to my lists as a bookmark/subscribed item so that I can quickly get back to their list, especially if it’s one that is actively updated (so the Copy feature wouldn’t be suitable). I suppose I can ‘like’ a list and go to my profile>lists>reactions:personal lists but that feels more like a compromise workaround rather than the intention.

But yes, I agree with you that the new design is beyond awful, and I too will be sticking to the classic design for as long as I can.

I need to filter and sort my lists. And I absolutely need a ten-star rating system. Seven is the second most used rating from me.

Partially In Library

Not In Library

@kcador I must be blind but how am I supposed to get to my own Library on the “new” website? Or even mark something as “collected”?

TBH this design is almost as much as a clusterfuck as Plex succeeded in creating with their new Roku Experience. And just go look on their forums to see how well received that was.

But anyways, to answer your questions:

  1. Without access to Library or the ability to mark something as collected Trakt becomes almost useless.
  2. I use Trakt not just to monitor “Next Up” items but also to manage the Watch List of my owned items (digital and physical). The entire point of being able to integrate Trakt with database management software like Kodi, Plex, Emby etc is premised on the desire to track what we as users own or have access to, what we’ve watched, what’s next etc. Taking away that integral part of the website makes Trakt far less valuable. And to be blunt completely unneeded. I can use a myriad of other websites to accomplish what Trakt has been reduced to with the new website. Ninety nine percent of those are free. And those that charge for sure don’t get $60 from me.
  3. This question is almost impossible to answer as I’d hazard a guess I speak for most here when I say just leave well enough alone. The current Trakt website works fine. Those that want a Lite version can do so. The one almost mandatory improvement needed besides (1) is an easier return to the “Classic” website. If you can put a link on the Classic, you most definitely can do the same in reverse.

On the mobile app how can one vote on a show/movie and where does it display previsouly voted shows/movies ?

Seems to be removed or not present

I’ll refrain from listing them because of limitations on discussing competitors, but it depends on your needs and desires tbh. The main one that many defected to earlier this year after the list item reduction (and is easily found in some of those discussions) has some limitations that don’t make it ideal for me although the website layout is much more pleasing. There are a few self-hosted options too. Like I said it really depends on your exact needs but this is probably not the best place to discuss if we want to keep this thread open.

Not to be overdramatic but as someone who had Trakt as a core part of my hobbie since I was 14 years old (been a member for 13 years now!) it’s kind of heartbreaking how there’s such an effort to destroy everything that makes Trakt what we’ve been using and loving for so long. It looks like you’re trying to change the core of what it is to attract a new audience while completely dismissing the ones who’ve been here for over a decade. At this point, the feedback feels pointless. It’s just sad to be honest.

For my friends and me, Trakt has always been a social experience, something the “New Trakt” has completely taken away from us.

1, We used to check each other’s history daily, both under our profiles and directly on movie or series episode pages. When we saw friends profile pictures appear under a movie, we could easily tell who had watched it and when, by checking their history.

The new horizontal layout is completely unusable for that purpose.

2, We used to change our profile background images seasonally.

3, Another huge, gaping wound is the calendar. I look at my calendar every day like it’s the holy scripture, that’s where I keep track of my listed movies and shows and see when things are being released.
I also created custom filters on the side for different streaming services, family members, specific movies, and specific shows. These features are all gone now.

4, I also often use the Shows or Movies tabs to keep track of things that may have slipped off my radar but others are still watching. I especially love the new Streaming Charts subtab, as it reflects current trends much better, showing how rankings change on JustWatch in each country and how many people have watched something recently.

5, The FADE and HIDE options are also part of my daily use, both on the main pages and in the calendar.

6, We also frequently check release dates on movie pages when we’re waiting for something to come out, so we particularly appreciate the Streaming category in the calendar.

7, We also love the ability to adjust streaming providers between countries, so we can see availability for the services that matter most to us in different regions.

In summary, all the new apps, web or iOS, are completely unusable for us, as all the community, calendar, and filtering functions are missing.
Unfortunately, the “LITE” label hasn’t lost its meaning over time, even though it’s now called “NEW.”

As a VIP user for 12 years now, I have to agree with the absolute majority of the previous posts here.

I accepted the price increase with a heavy heart. But if the decision is made to discontinue the current Trakt layout, I will cancel my paid account immediately. If the current layout is retained and further developed, and the new Trakt exists alongside it, that’s fine with me, but if the old layout goes, I’m definitely leaving.

The new layout is an absolute reduction to some basic functions (and not even all of them) while significantly worsening clarity and usability. It would be such a step backward that it would be hard to believe and quite sad to be honest.

Please, PLEASE don’t give up on the current layout!

It still looks nowhere near ready to replace the current Trakt. Issues with the VIP policies and limits for free users aside, Classic Trakt works. This basically doesn’t. Feel free to work on it on the side until it’s ready to even compare to Classic, but especially after the recent feature reductions for free users and price increases for effectively those same features available to all users before, this reads like yet another decision to decrease the value of this platform for us users and it frustrates the hell out of us.

To put it bluntly, as the other posts should indicate, if you ditch the current Trakt for this, we will ditch you.

You say it’s faster and cleaner. From what I can see it’s much slower - I can literally hear my fans firing up quickly just by loading a page of scrolling on it - and despite the missing features it feels more cluttered and less organized which in turn means it takes longer to find anything on a page.

No detailed Watch Now (countries and favorites distinctions), no collections and no list editing or even sorting are absolute dealbreakers and tons of settings are missing. And as stupid and petty as it sounds, ditching the 10-point ratings system for a 5-star one is damn near a dealbreaker as well.

The UI feels like a mixed bag - I appreciate the more detailed season episode list on episode pages but more than that I need the quick back/forward navigation we have now, but I’m not sure if I can deal with horizontal scrolling everywhere forever and lots of little details are bugging me - like the link underlines everywhere cluttering everything up, the weird arrangement of the Trakt/IMDB rating counts or the fact that the buttons for checking in and marking as watched are now in two completely different places when they clearly belong together semantically.

Making filters a global sidebar module also doesn’t seem to make much sense. I get the idea of centralizing a feature used in different places, but the search module where they’d make the most sense is now missing all and ANY filters, there’s no reason to assume you’d want the same filters you just set for a random list to apply to everything everywhere from that point forward (I know I don’t) and it seems completely out of place to have it there when I’m e.g. on a show detail page.

I don’t see my history or ratings list anywhere, both are dealbreakers as well. My own profile is missing the recently watched section along with all the other profile sections that seem to be missing for everyone on Lite, and when I’m navigating to my own private profile via the username in a comment instead of the /me link in the sidebar, I can’t view my own profile at all.

I’m sure more minutes spent with Lite will unearth more missing features, but it really doesn’t feel like a platform I’d want to spend more time on.
