[Poll] Will you keep your VIP membership at $60?

Forums have been public for a while though!

I’m not a $15 user, $30 now ( in my local currency it’s $50+) I’ve been VIP happily for 5 years +, happy to support a small business per sĆ©, I really have only used the service for tracking and next up kind of thing, to go to over $100 ( local $$) can’t be justified. the % increase is relative of course, it’s the same for everyone. My wallet has spoken.

I am/was truly disappointed. Really I am/was. The service is/was good. I am/was happy to pay 30 per year. 60 is absolutely out of the question by far for what I use the service for. The disappointment has started to fade and now I am just excited to see how this is going rock their world. I desperately want them to learn a hard lesson. Furthermore I hope it does irreparable damage and it destroys the business. Meanwhile I will be enjoying my new self hosted service. Good ridance to the greed and lies.

Only jumped on the VIP train for automatic Plex scrobbling and was already unhappy with paying 30$ for that, but was happy to support a good project. If I had to select a fair price for the product I’d select something between 10$ and 24$. But 60$ for the VIP ā€œbenefitsā€? They are out of their minds - goodbye!

I only came to this thread from a Reddit post and voted, I don’t think I’ve visited this forum more than a few times in the last 6 years I’ve been a VIP member. Judging from all the posts/replies on Reddit there will be a sh@t ton of VIP members cancelling.

ā€œwill beā€?

They already have! Many have posted in various threads a screenshot of their cancellations.

I only went VIP to support Trakt. I didn’t require any of the VIP features.

i have cancelled automatic renewal and will not be signing back up again.

Furthermore I will continue to seek out alternative options in the future since I do not support this kind of predatory behaviour. If you want to raise prices without a reason, do it for new subscribers so they are fully aware of the costs going into the purchase.

Don’t bait and switch existing subscribers and your loyal base.

Check out SIMKL…it’s the closest alternative.

If you don’t mind ā€œself hostingā€, you can check out Yamtrack, it’s pretty awesome.

Then there is this project that’s showing plenty of potential, but it’s user base is still too small. Check out MediaLib (https://medialib.net/). Wouldn’t hurt to sign up (it’s free) to help him grow so that he can continue to add new features.

MediaLib seems like it has some potential indeed. And it can track books and games as well!

I’ve been a VIP member for 13 years. The price has been fair for what I’ve been able to use so far. But I’m not going to spend $60 next year because I think it’s not so expensive, but because I’ve been a member for 13 years, they haven’t even given me a ā€œlong years benefitā€, plus I don’t use all the VIP features, actually just importing the list of current series into the calendar. And it’s not worth that much, other providers offer it for free. So I canceled the automatic renewal.

Same here. Letting it expire. I was only using it for the tracking features. They should have done tier based plans. Maybe they will after this storm hits em. But for now, I’m keeping my $60 (or $30) if it didn’t change.

Totally agree, we use it in the same way and in that there is no value to continue such a ridiculous price hike.

Like Terry and some others mentioned I like to manually tick off episodes after I watch them as well. Trying SIMKL - thanks for that Terry. A bit of a cluttered home page but to be honest they have an app and an import function - I just imported all my lists and watched history from Trakt and set up this new profile in under two minutes. I’m honestly shocked it was so seemless. Some decent back of the house coding over there. The app looks pretty clean and I really like how the Next page shows the episodes of shows, which day and time, and there is a notification an hour after it airs so I know to go grab that episode.

This might not work for all of the pros with massive lists but for me, who was looking for another option since Trakt forced 100 items max to non pro users after I canceled my pro - Kodi integration from Trakt became terrible - and Letterbox still didn’t have series.

But that other site which tracks books as well I might check out. I listen to a LOT of audiobooks series and I like the idea of having all this traits in one place.

As a backup to Simkl I’m looking at TMDb lists. I use Kodi Fen Light and can connect to my TMDb account to access the lists. I don’t think they have the option to mark things as watched, or keep a progress/watched history but for all my static lists it could be a good place to put them. I’d like to put my collection there too, but it needs to be csv and I don’t see the option to export your collection the way you can with lists.

I’ve been a member for over 9 years and VIP for 6 @ $30/year, which was more than I felt it was worth but wanted to support the site.

I can’t imagine what additional features they think could justify doubling the price. Increase a bit maybe ($15->$24, $30->$36), but not double (or quadruple!) all in one go.

It’s not that I can’t afford it – it already cost more than I felt it was worth (to me) and now it’s twice that.

So unless they do some serious backtracking (unlikely, given their heels-in response to the still-disgusting ā€œmakeoverā€ backlash), I plan on just not renewing when it runs out at the end of the year.

I’m guessing some investment group has more control now. Line go up, indefinitely.
After their very Corpo response to this backlash, I’ll sub at any rate they desire forever. /s

You know, a good place for goodwill to have started again would have been for @justin to own up and apologise for not honouring his grandfathered prices guarantee, but I guess that’s never coming and he’s just going to keep ignoring his massive error, whether because he’s not man enough or no longer cares. The next would be to realise the price hike is a massive mistake and a smaller (as many have said) one inline with inflation or whatever (maybe $5 this year, same next year, not double or quadruple!) would probably have been acceptable to the majority, but I think they are unwilling to keep old VIP members and are placing everything on new ones signing up because of tightening free access. A bit of openness and honesty by them wouldn’t hurt either instead of vague promises that never come, or excuses like infrastructure costs. They forget we are their income and if they don’t keep users onside ultimately it won’t be us losing out but Trakt, big time. They must be close to crapping themselves by now.

yea 99.999999% sure that won’t happen considering they never once backed down for the free users features downgrade. even didn’t give suggestions a chance.

You can up that to 100%. Ain’t no way. Already been well over a week and they’ve just double and tripled down. Justin is back to posting about bugs and stuff, but still hasn’t even mentioned anything about the price change. Business as usual.

It’s a huge shame that Justin has chosen to be silent about this (or is being forced into being silent). He, along with the other founders are the sole reason I became VIP. I have no use for the VIP features but wanted to support a website that was founded by and run by people who clearly cared about and engaged with the userbase.

the personal attacks arent necessary. you can be vocal about the issue and situation without demeaning someone just because they’re the founder or decision maker. and for those saying they hope trakt goes out of business, remember that they’re still people with bills to pay and families to support. It’s no different than when people would say they hope a retail giant goes out of business cuz they were denied a return or had a bad experience. In that example, putting thousands of people out of a job doesn’t equate to justice for your perceived injustice.
