Gotcha…glad we got that taken care of. I’m already on SIMKL’s free Discord that has tons of channels already. Not sure I would need to buy VIP just for Discord…
if you visit simkl’s website 20 days a month each month, you can get Pro for free. since you typically use websites more than apps, it might be something that you can benefit just by using it regularly. you probably can read up on that from their pricing page too.
you can use their simkl app as well to count for those 20 days of logins, i have an account at simkl but its more of an afterthought. trakt is done so much better
i heard simkl beta 2.0 lacks api support which focuses on lists so depending how you use simkl, it’s something to be mindful about where they lack vs where they shine.
for me at least the api support doesnt matter. i dont do scrobbling, i like tracking everything manually. But that also makes sense for now since its the beta version, once it becomes full version 2.0 itll probably resume support
Which is what is so disappointing about how Trakt is doing things this year. All these lies, changes and flat out bullshit things. I switched from TV Time to Trakt a little over 4 years ago because when I found Trakt, it’s free stuff was awesome out of the box and TV Time started to have all kinds of problems.
I’m only signed up for SIMKL while looking for a valid replacement for Trakt. I’m still open to the idea of building one myself with the help of a couple (or maybe even a handful) of other developers that can help me build the back-end stuff (like the API for others to consume, and integrating with TMDB/JustWatch, etc). I can handle most of the front-end stuff myself.
I’m the same. I’m not a scrobbler either. I totally enjoy the manual tracking. That’s why I haven’t cared about the Plex integration so some of these other services that have been recommended that are based on scrobbling/plex just don’t work for me.
Having read all of the posts and information shared since the initial announcement, this is exactly where my opinion has evolved to.
Not renewing either, they just digged their own graves…
Cancelled after 13 years. $15 - $60 is way too much of an increase.
Currently, 695 votes .. 95% saying NO .. that’s 660 VIPs at $/£60 a pop . $/£ 36,000 in lost revenue. Great business decision with the opposite result intended, and only likely to increase more (as this obviously doesn’t include those who don’t visit the forums and have just cancelled with no noise, and those who haven’t voted), so the loss in paying VIP users will be significantly higher. People vote with their feet and wallet sadly.
I still maintain, this is such a shame and should not have happened. Trakt has always been a great service, but the last year or so has changed direction and I think all trust with the community has just evaporated leaving everyone bewildered as to who is making these silly decisions.
Absolute muppets.
You are drawing conclusions that are impossible from this datapoint. You’d need to know the total number of subscribers and how many of those go ahead to renew at a higher price. Those that renew at a higher price will have a positive impact on revenue.
I suspect 695 is a small fraction of the total number.
Maybe the result is still a loss of revenue, maybe it becomes breakeven or maybe revenue increases. Remember for every subscriber that previously paid $15 and renews, you have to lose >3 for the nett result to be a reduction. A little less where the shift was from $30, where you’d need to lose >2 for a negative impact.
No! Their service is not worth what they are asking for. I am sure many of us used their service because it integrated well with our home media server. Allowing us to add content to our servers via watchlists integrated into sonarr/radarr. Now, unless you are VIP you can only have 100 items on your watchlist.
Thank you trakt, I now have no reason once so ever to use your service as I have said previously in other posts. You think I am gonna pay you 60 a year so I can have a larger watchlist? No, what you did is, just lost a customer(s).
I’ll just fully switch to Overseerr to add content to my server and I may delete my trakt account completely if I have the option in my account.
What a dumb idea. Who the hell at their company really thinks their service is worth 6 bucks a month? What so I can make watchlists and use your dumb ass filters. Overseerr lets me use my watchlist from within plex and I can add stuff directly from plex. It also doesn’t charge my 6 bucks a month to filter movies by genre lol. Talk about milking a movie/tv show ratings/review website for all its worth. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You have just become obsolete TRAKT.
“Git Good” and change your pricing back to 30 bucks before you go under. The fact that you think you even have the customer base to support this change is ridiculous.
Your yearly service, isn’t worth the same price of what an Xbox/PS5 game costs. Stop acting like it is. I’d maybe pay you 60 bucks once for a lifetime service but yearly? LOL! You guy have lost your dam minds.
Almost a 10 year user of Trakt. GOODBYE!
To be fair, these 695 are paying $30 or less, not $60. That’s the point.
But I do think it’s probably fairly representative of the user base. VIPs are folks that have a heavy and passionate interest in this stuff, as are folks who chat in forums. If anything, it’s probably under-representing the folks who are into media tracking but not savvy or interested enough to join a forum to share their distaste in pricing. They’ll talk with their wallets.
I have already cancelled by Direct Debit for the next renewal. If they didnt have money problems before they certainly do now…
As much as I love this service, I simply cannot afford to pay double for something that I can really live without. I see other services emerging and I guess it time to put loyalty aside and think of my pocket book. I will miss trakt, but just like when I gave up smoking and drinking lol, I got over it
We’re twins, I’m exactly the same, been VIP 5+ years, come August, I’m gone.
No. I can’t justify 60$/year “just because my watchlist is 150 items instead of 100”. That’s it. Even the “rewatch” feature I don’t use.
I never really needed the VIP membership extras. I’m a “small” user because I don’t watch that much to justify it based on the consume. Trakt VIP always was some kind of appreciation for the service. I don’t think I will renew my membership. Not only because I don’t think that the VIP extras are worth a 100% price gauge, but also because a certain VIP feature (the automatic scrobbling) doesn’t work at all (at least for me). If this feature would be ok, I might have been ok with the new pricing, but since I can’t scrobble reliably and have to manually check every watched item if it has been scrobbled or not, and most of the time have to manually scrobble anyway, I don’t see any reason to stay VIP.
I will miss the forum, though.
