$60 for Trakt VIP? That’s double the old price with no clear added value. This price hike feels like a lose-lose situation for everyone. Trakt now has to deal with a flood of support tickets and frustrated loyal VIP users dropping VIP if they don’t get the same price, while potential new subscribers are completely deterred by the steep cost. Meanwhile, those unwilling to pay the price hike are either sticking to the free version or turning to alternatives. So instead of increasing revenue, this decision seems to be driving users away and creating more issues for the platform. A smarter, more balanced approach could have avoided this.
Hope Trakt rethinks this because this isn’t working.
I wanted to subscribe to the annual VIP, but for me it can’t, it’s too expensive. I live in another country and here the dollar is very high. Do you have any forecast for regionalization of the VIP price? Another question: when will you launch the annual VIP on the Play Store? I already have the monthly VIP that I subscribed to through the Play Store, where the price is located.
Again, based on Justin’s posts, being an active VIP member should qualify me for the grandfathered price point. Trakt itself is telling me I’m an active VIP. If support tells me different when I finally receive a formal response to my renewal request asking for the original price point of my subscription to be honored even though I turned off auto-renewal, I’m done.
Seems like they changed their mind because a user on Reddit got a link to the original pricing because they had auto renewal turned off. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly and gets forgotten about as a misstep.
“We are of course open to feedback and welcome that. For everyone in this thread who is already a VIP, nothing really changes.” Unfortunately this is not true. I’m a VIP, my subscription expires on Monday December 16th but I’m being “demoted” because, 10’ after last year renewal, as I always do, I turned off the auto-renewal. I’ve never received any email, during the last 363 days, warning me of the new price, that, of course, I will not pay. So bye bye VIP. @justin@Sonply
Damn. Mine expired and my card was no longer valid. I went to renew a couple days later. $60. That’s shame. I liked sponsoring, but I don’t use any of the VIP features except no ads.
Yes, this week, because I wanted to renew my subscription and I found out the new price. No one has publicized the upcoming price increase, no e-mail as a “Vip”. So, in a couple of days I’ll be a “Nip” :-). Is Trakt a “one man band” or someone is answering to customers, when the boss is out of office? @Sonply
This is not “The” solution. No one is officially answering on the forum, and you will likely lose a bunch of subscriptions, because you did not send any e-mail warning the “so called” Vip of the incoming price increase. I’m very, very, very upset, because I have my Plex server connected to Trakt, and 30 usd was a fair price, or, at least, an affordable one. That’s why I supported you. And as far as I am a “Vip” (active auto renewal or not) I think I’m eligible to maintain the old price. @Sonply
Have you read the rest of this thread? The response you’ve linked to tells users to contact support to have the original price point honored. When they do so, support is informing them that they are not considered to be active members if auto-renewal was disabled at any point, regardless of whether or not their subscription has yet to expire. As such, those users don’t qualify for the grandfathered price and they must pay the new price. That is contrary to what the post you linked to says.
And there was one from a member who was considering VIP and asking if there would be a BF sale, and they were directed to support as well.
If it was as simple as that, I would be emailing support myself and asking for the $30 deal, but if existing VIP members who cancelled their autorenewal can’t get it, then I don’t see the point in wasting my (and their) time asking.
If I had seen the offer to get in before the 5th September, I would have, but hey ho.
