Revert the change - bring back classic Trakt

I’ve been VIP for almost 5 years. The user experience I had was great. Never had an issue; never needed any major change. This new UI, is something that doesn’t offer me anything new and much less a better experience. And not only that, but also I’m now learning about the price increase. I suspect this might be an attempt to streamline the development by having all “apps” share most of the source code. However, as much as I can understand the technical side of things, I am not willing to keep paying for a service that not only has gotten worse, but—like I said—is gonna get more expensive. If anything, it should be cheaper while the user experience gets to the same level it has been all this time. I could start analyzing and giving feedback about what’s wrong with the new UI, but I’m not getting paid for it, quite the contrary. For now, I’ve seen that the classic UI is still there, but I’m not betting on it staying for much longer. Unless we’re given the option to keep the classic UI or get a price reduction, sorry, but I’ll cancel my subscription.

Do you know that you can still use the classic Trakt?

This “new” UI is atrocious and does not follow any functional or form standards. People actually get paid for this? I bet it was AI generated.

Wait, how do you do that? I wanted to give a show 9/10 but I can’t figure it out. There’s 5 stars

if the old UI is gone, then consider me and my VIP subscription gone as well

If you tap on the 5th star a second time it turns into 4.5 stars.

Or if you press and hold for a second then the full list of 10 ratings will show up.

Ugh. Tap and hold did not seem to make any difference (on windows). Rating second time did the trick. But the first rating already triggered for me to post it to Discord so that was not a great journey.

the long press option is only for apps unfortunately but clicking the rating again will change it, as someone mentioned, and clicking it a third time will remove the rating

yeah, that won’t work for me. I hope this gets improved.

you mean it doesn’t work at all or you’re not happy with it?

How do you turn off this horrendous, awful, terrible new UI they just decided to force upon us? Honestly, this is worse than the 4x VIP price increase. I might not even use the remaining of my VIP subscription if I have to suffer this exceptionally bad UI.

Ah, sorry for being vague. I meant for my use case (as I mentioned above the ratings feed shoots out a post immediately to Discord).

Oh this is good! That link took to me to a website with great UI  Thanks!

Realized seeing from old UI now that I had rated the Show instead of intended Season.

I totally agree with you, I am going to cancel my premium subscription if they didn’t revert back to the old UI. I don’t get it, instead of working on maintaining the current working version, they are developing a new very bad UI and they doubled the price for premium subscription!

I agree, It’s awful.

I have Trakt history as a website on my homescreen of my phone & laptop. Apparently the webpage Trakt history no longer exists.

Then I would be able to scroll down & see what day I watched what.

Then programmes I watch daily I could select the show from the day before & choose the next episode number.

I just searched for the show High Potential s2. There are only four episodes listed & I can’t work out how to scroll to get to the latest episode shown yesterday which was s2ep 8 or 9.
Also it used to say what date & time I had logged it as watched. Nowhere can I see that information.

I just want what I had two days ago back.

I’m thinking I am going to just have to start a Word doc & type out what I watched & when???

The classic Trakt app and website is feature-rich and fairly easy to use. I know that on a technical level, it is very complex. It’s never a good thing when a native application has to refresh content from its own APIs the way that Classic appears to do. So if I’m going to say anything positive at all about the Lite experience, it’s that it loads and updates much more quickly. It’s snappy.

However, it’s at the expense of dozens of features that most users very clearly use and we have been extremely vocal about it. I can’t even list them because there’s just so many small things I do in the app on a daily basis that aren’t possible anymore, or they require multiple time-wasting steps now. It’s been covered thoroughly by others in this thread.

It’s infuriating that we’re not being listened to. I became a VIP a few years ago because of the data corruption event that resulted in a catastrophic loss of our content. At the time, Trakt appealed to its userbase on account of it being a cash-strapped startup that needed our support. I agreed and I ponied up. But if you’re not going to listen to your paying customers at all? No, I’m out. I’ll use the free version for now and hope that the dev team starts listening and fixing Lite’s problems. But sooner or later a superior alternative will come along.

I have been a vip for 12 years. I really do not like the new app layout. If it becomes the only option, I will cancel and move to another platform. If I wanted a simplified app view, I would use the mobile app instead of the website.

What self-hosted alternative have you found?

Thank you so much for posting the link to the old version!
