The new icon is a big downgrade, but that was mentioned often enough.
I like the purple visually, but my eyes are programmed to ignore writer/director/etc links in purple because it screams ‘visited link’. Doesn’t work, won’t work.
Now that RELEASED, RUNTIME and such are not bold anymore, they are much harder to read.

so basically the thread can be closed.
The site listen to the users (if after all the negativity not only for the change but accusing people of profit and blackmailing) and gave the option of switch. And of course it is going to be a VIP option. It is shocking that people are wondering about that.

I think it’s rather shocking that you are dismissing all the arguments that were brought forward in a civil manner, instead making it sound like everyone should stfu. Sorry, but that’s not how it works.
Also, while I really highly praise and appreciate all the work and troubles the Trakt dev and support team went through in the past to give us this masterpiece of a product, it is still allowed to voice any concerns or dislikes about fundamental or even small changes in the service. To shut that up because you simply don’t want to hear any of that anymore is not solving anything. This site heavily leans on VIP money and many VIPs have stated their concerns with the mostly unwanted and/or unexpected changes.
And while they listened to the feedback to some extend and adjusted some of the changes for VIPs - a lot of things are still unanswered. Why is there no purple/red toggle on iOS? Why the sudden changes in the recognizability of this brand? Why was there no test phase upfront? Why has the social media poll not been revealed? What are Trakt’s plans for the future? How do they justify the $€£ increase of VIP membership by 100+%?
So far a lot of things have not been answered properly (or I might’ve missed it - this thread is really long) and since Twitter came along we all know there will always be people who can’t behave and just throw accusations around. We all have to live with those people. But nevertheless is it valid as a member of this community to communicate concerns and dislikes. And even if it might be painful at first because I’m sure Justin and co. spent a lot of time on this update, they do value the input because they can only learn from that and get even better.

I’ve really given it a fair shot over the past few days, but I just can’t get used to the new logo. It’s not so much the font and color that bother me- though I’ve always associated Trakt with red, and it feels like a loss to change that core identity after a decade.
The main issue is that the logo just isn’t visually appealing or intuitive. It resembles more of a to-do app icon than something for tracking, which doesn’t quite fit the purpose.

And by pay enough attention, do you mean to read all 341 messages here? I have better things to do. I just came to voice my concern and I’m very happy that apparently I was not the only one and they listened to all the feedback and fixed the issue.
No need to read anything here as it is listed in the release notes 
not really. The same can apply for every VIP extra that you have. And the making the site worse is totally subjective.

I kinda dislilke the fact, that a better “usable” and readable color scheme for me would be avaible now only if i pay ALOT for VIP.
I would only need a better readable design like before, without getting more headaches (which i already have alot).
I even looked at it but there is nothing else i would need out of VIP and to just be “readable without getting problems” its money i sadly dont have at the moment.
I dont know what i will do know, i like this page, but currently its really hard for me to use alot because of the color changes.
Maybe i need to look to find something else.

Look, not everyone has the luxury of infinite time to read through this entire thread nor does every casual user read through every release note.
It’s valid to ask here. It’s a forum. It’s a thread about the new release. Let people ask and voice their pros and cons about this release.
I don’t agree with the purple, and I don’t care if I’m a VIP and can change it back on the website - I can’t on iOS which is my main OS I use Trakt on.
Also, I get, that specific functions are hidden behind the paywall, that’s absolutely fine and fair and it’s the reason I like to support this site. Because I do get functions I like and use a lot and can help out the devs with my contribution.
But the color toggle is artificially created by simply changing the base product to a (for many users) worse version. I think purple on black is like THE worst choice in terms of contrast.
So I think the backlash about that is valid and should be heard and voiced as long as it’s in a civil manner!
The devs being hesitant about switching the most unliked changes back to its original makes me wonder what the reasoning behind that is. Because it can’t be that difficult to change it back…

First of all thx for the latest test version and while it is contrast wise a positive change I still would like to know why we can’t get the red coloring back for the text as well as the icons (‘track’ & bottom menu) in the iOS app that made your brand so recognizable?
It’s all well readable now but it’s also 50 shades of grey in dark mode (sorry for the pun - couldn’t resists haha)
Honest question. I loved the red! I think most of us do… at least give us the option within the app?

So the latest test version changed it to grey no problem but red needs to be approved by the App Store?! I don’t think so…
Also I can’t find where Justin explicitly said that the old color theme is coming back to apps.

I’m glad to read I’m not the only one thinking that’s not at all fair to place behind the VIP paywall something very basic like the classic red color, especially when no one was asking for something different. You can’t consider going back to a previous status as a “new feature”. 
Since Justin has been very clear that new hideous purple will stay as the default color (even if a vast majority doesn’t seem to like it), I guess we can only hope the color switcher to revert the old red theme will sooner or later become available to everyone, as it happened with dark mode (as far as I’m concerned, one of the most appreciated decisions ever!). Thank you for taking that into consideration.

Is there a reason why the old beautiful, identifiable logo was changed to the lamest most generic thing possible that not only is unrecognizable but also is almost a copy of instagram logo and color scheme ?
Should we be worried about who’s gonna own our data soon ?
