Iāve been using Trakt since 2017, Iāve been a VIP member since November 2021, and Iām already paid through 2028.
I use Trakt every single day. Itās probably the website I visit the most. My entire media workflow revolves around it (Plex, webhooks, library sync, ratings, statistics, calendar, etc.).
To be honest, I still prefer V2. I donāt think V3 is unusable, and if I had no choice, Iād eventually get used to it. The design itself isnāt my main issue.
The real problem is that Iām losing features I genuinely relied on every day.
Here are the biggest regressions Iāve found so far:
- Calendar: the old calendar had useful filters such as Premieres and Finales. I used them all the time because they removed all the regular weekly episodes and only showed me when a season started or finished. I donāt need to know when Episode 5 airsāI want to know when a season begins and, more importantly, when itās completely finished so I can start watching it.
- iCal: my existing iCal feed still works, so the backend clearly hasnāt disappeared. However, I can no longer find where to access or manage it in V3. If I wanted to set it up again, generate a new feed, or copy the link on another device, I simply wouldnāt know how. That functionality seems to have disappeared from the interface.
- Exports: exports still exist, but only as a full account export. In V2, I could export exactly what I needed: my watch history, my ratings, and even filter those exports by a specific date range. For example, I could export only my watch history from the last week as a CSV. That level of control is gone, making exports much less useful.
- Library: itās no longer possible to remove items from the Library. My Plex sync automatically adds new movies and shows, but when I delete something from my Plex server I also want to remove it from my Trakt Library to keep both in sync. Thatās no longer possible. (As a side note, automatically removing deleted Plex items from the Trakt Library would actually be a great feature.)
- Ratings: I can no longer sort my ratings by score. Before, I could instantly see all of my 10/10, 9/10, etc. Now ratings are only displayed chronologically, making it much harder to browse my highest-rated movies and shows.
- Statistics: key lifetime statistics are much less accessible than they used to be. They used to be visible directly on the home page, whereas now I have to go to my profile just to see rounded numbers (e.g. 2.6K instead of the exact total). If I want the exact figures, I then have to open the All Time page. Even there, total watch time is only shown in hours instead of days, which is much less meaningful at a glance.
- Plex Sync History: previously I could open each synchronization and see exactly which movies or episodes had been added during that specific sync. Now I only get summaries like ā10 episodes addedā or ā1 movie addedā, with no way to see the detailed list for that synchronization. Yes, I can still browse my Library by recently added items, but thatās not the same thing. The old sync history made it much easier to understand exactly what each automatic sync had done.
- Sorting: I can no longer sort an actorās filmography or even my own lists by rating. I mainly relied on IMDb ratings because of the much larger number of votes, but I also used Trakt ratings. Being able to instantly sort from the highest-rated to the lowest-rated titles was incredibly useful, and that option is now gone.
These arenāt cosmetic changes. Theyāre everyday features that many of us actually relied on.
Whatās frustrating is that I paid for a service that included these features. Iām already subscribed through 2028, and only a few months after renewing, Iām now forced to use an interface that offers less functionality than the one I originally paid for.
As a long-time VIP user, that honestly feels like a step backwards.
At this point, itās becoming difficult to understand the direction Trakt is taking. Features keep disappearing, while the subscription price has continued to increase over the years. As a paying customer, thatās incredibly frustrating.
These arenāt obscure edge-case features. Theyāre exactly the kind of functionality that made Trakt worth paying for instead of using one of the many free alternatives.
I understand that products evolve, but removing the previous website before V3 reached feature parity was, in my opinion, the wrong decision.
Right now, V3 is objectively less capable than the version it replaced. Thatās not just about the designāitās about losing functionality that many of us used every single day.
I really hope these features come back soon, because otherwise itās becoming harder and harder to justify paying for Trakt.
