many years member, I also now quit. I just need to sync watched movies. Sorry but this price for this is insane. I support trakt and I like it, but this is crazy.
I use Trakt daily… It is one of the best trackers that I could find when I looked.
Join the VIP because I like some of the features and I wanted to show my support.
I know I have canceled VIP before because I couldn’t afford it at the time… but I came back when I could.
BUT I AM NOT SURE I CAN AFFORD $60 FOR JUST ME.
I use everything I can to support all my family… and I always try to find a good deal and I do. But $60 for 1 person is not much of a deal to me. 
I have a year to figure out if this will actually work. Doubtful though. 
But I do have to agree that this seems like a bait and switch situation.

I’ve been a fan and supported the service over 8 years, but a 100% price increase I can’t oblige. Cancelled my renewal and looking for something else with a sad heart.
jup, did that. My current VIP ends january 3 2026 and I have cancelled the paypal renewal, so I guess I’ll start the new year traktless. I have a few months to find a new home, which shouldn’t be hard to do. It’s not like trakt is the only option out there.
Pure corporate greed with this insane price hike.

This is an absolute slap in the face to your loyal customers. Greedy. Are you high - doubling the price, what kind of logical business strategy is that?
15 bucks was ok for something I barely use but it’s not worth 60.
4x increase even with a 2x step in-between is ridiculous

Just imported my history into simkl. Looks great, took about 10 seconds. Just signup for free and you’ll get asked if you want to import data from another service. Click yes, select trakt, grant permission and you’re set.
Their paid subscriptions are pretty expensive, but their free tier has a lot of the options trakt has in VIP.

At least you got an email. I just checked didn’t get one. I found out because someone posted this on Lemmy.
Bad justification. Bad notification. Bad execution. Plus recent feature additions broke my watch history. Just cancelled.

Does anyone know or have an educated guess how many VIP members Trakt has? I’m genuinely curious. A quick google search said Trakt had at least 2 million+ users but I have no idea how many of those 2 million are VIP. In a lot of industries I believe 2% to 5% of users being VIP would be considered success but it seems like Trakt would have much more than that based on the supportive comments I’ve always seen from its community. I was just trying to figure out how much money Trakt may stand to lose or gain with this decision. I know for myself personally that once a business does this to me, even if they backtrack, that trust and support I had for them is gone.
For the people recommending SIMKL, what the heck does that stand for? and I noticed the lifetime VIP option for $150 and with the features offered, it seems enticing.. but how long has this company been around? How do we feel about those running it? and what are the chances that they someday do what Trakt is doing now? (go back on their word and stop honoring something they promised)

Bad move.
5€/month is to expensive compare to what I paid for other services.
I became a VIP to support the site not for the features.
I will have no other choice than cancel my subscription.
At creator, you’ve the time to cancel this initiative which will kill you’re app.
I need to see if they have API and lists. FML I am 12 years VIP. I swear I use trakt more than any other site. But what they did just now is unacceptable.
Trakt I loved what you were, I hate what you are becoming.
It is clear you only care about money with all the stuff you did lately.

Agree. They kept reinventing the wheels in the past half year that was unnecessary and confusing, and now 100% price increase. I wonder what happened to the team.

I think they had a staff meeting, and they were commenting on how some new users signed up on the new $60 pricing, and then one said, Hey, I know, what if EVERYONE paid $60.. how would that make our bank balances look… and then everyone agreed, it was time.

Mine goes from 15 USD to 60 USD… Yay and nay for that price. Doesn’t use any features at all anyways, been VIP since 2013 because I liked the service it provided with scrobbling from Kodi and back then I used Trakt as an importer of “watched statuses” if I had to reinstall Kodi etc.
Other than that, I barely use the site. Only for keeping track of what I watched.

Cancelled my subscription after 6 years.
No idea if anyone from Trakt is going to read this thread, but I wanted to say “thanks” for the past 11 years. I knew $15/year was a steal, and I really appreciated that you honored the price anyway. Even the post from last September where you said you wouldn’t increase the price seemed too good to be true…turns out it was.
I’m not sure what’s going on behind the scenes, but to me, Trakt isn’t worth $60/year. I’ve been unemployed since January, so I’m not even sure I can make a one-time $30 renewal work, but I’ll figure that out before July.
I hope Trakt survives this.
