Upcoming VIP Renewal Pricing Changes

I just cancel renew for my vip after several years, 60 is too much.

Just outrageous. Can’t be justified. Will be cancelling

Not being argumentative here, but is 400 posts really a lot given the user base? Googling user numbers, Trakt has 2,000,000 users. There are currently 250,000 (approx) users watching movies and shows according to the Trakt watch status. How many of those have VIP memberships…who knows. But even if only 5% of the users are VIP members, 400 angry users posting in the forums is a negligible number.

Hopefully that number will climb. I didn’t personally receive the email. I only found out about the price increase after reading about it on Neowin.net. I came to the forums to see what was up. So there are probably a lot of VIP members that aren’t yet aware of this change.

The vast majority is not a paying user and the vast majority of people who got this email and cancelled with not be posting here.

I’d say losing USD 12000 in subscriber fees (~400 people posting here) is still a blow. I’m going to assume it’s a lot more than that. Anyway, someone will have calculated how many customers they can loose and we’re just not important.

Again, I’m just doing fuzzy math to see how much of a drop in the bucket we might be. Even if only 1% of the 2,000,000 users have VIP memberships, that is still 20,000 users. And at $60 a pop, that is $1,200,000 per year. Losing $12,000 in subscriber fees out of $1,200,000 is nothing.

I agree with you in that I think the number of users unsubscribing will be much higher. But I don’t think we can automatically conclude based on the activity and outrage in this forum (and rightly so) that Trakt has dealt themselves a death blow with this price increase.

I’d take it a step further…
If the renewal poll is a semi-accurate sampling of the VIP user base, losing 96% of the paid user base would be a significant (fatal?) blow.
Some have felt this move was an indication that Trakt was going to be sold but, I think that’s unlikely as the recurring revenue stream may have dried up and doubt that there would be any investors interested after this action.

Ha! Well, losing 20% of your yearly revenue (at $30!) or hypothetically (at $60) 10% of your revenue is a HUGE blow for any company. If they had shareholders, those share prices would drop hard.

$30/year is reasonable, but I can’t justify paying $60. Cancelled after 6 years VIP. I use premium features but I don’t like them enough to pay extra. I didn’t realize spoiler free was premium. The year in review quality has decreased and it’s lost a lot a value to me. With growing competition from Plex, this doesn’t seem like a smart move.

Yep, definitely out. I love the service, but that is insane. Not only are they going against promises made not too long ago, the jump in price is huge.

Gonna have to find an alternative now. My fav Trakt feature was always the actor stats. I loved seeing which actor or director I had watched the most of, and the percentage of their filmography I had viewed. At least I have a good while to find something new, but damn.

Will definitely be curious if any significant number of people stay subscribed, because this is ridiculous. They’ve lost a whole lot of trust and loyalty.

Hahahaha nope, no way. Cancelled the second a finished reading the email. I like Trakt but someone has to be downright delusional to think I’m paying $60 a year for it. Or paying for any subscription that literally doubles in price for me in a single price change. Absolutely not.

This.

Angry voices are the loudest.
(I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again)

Not that I think it was a good move but still

I had fun for 8 years but this is ridiculous.

March 1, 2026 — Increases from $30/year to $60/year :-1:t2::-1:t2::enraged_face:

So many messages and yet again zero comments from Justin. It’s really disappointing to see!

Don’t count on anything positive even if Justin responds. Last time he responded to a big change, he just got more heat because it was the final decision. Even though the post didn’t come from Justin, I’m 200% sure final executive decision came from him. He probably didn’t post it bc he knows there will be so much backlash and he’s probably avoiding direct backlash…..

I know you might be right… So much has happened over the past few years. But I remember speaking with Justin several times about 13 years ago, and he always struck me as such a passionate and genuinely good person. His heart really seemed to be in the right place and honestly, that was one of the reasons I remained a VIP. I’m just trying to understand what’s going on now, because he never came across as someone who would break promises or let people down.

Justin is a big chicken when it comes to these things. He can’t actually put his hand up and say if it was his decision, or give plausible explanations. Personally I wonder if he is just a pathetic figurehead shoved out front as its a name most know as Trakt and if he really does have any say in anything nowadays.

Yea you make some good points. I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened.

Wow
I’ve been a premium member for 9 years going on 10 next month and I’ve been paying for a premium sub for someone else for 4 years. It sucks that I have to unsubscribe.

A glorified spreadsheet isn’t worth $6/month.
