I am working on some bug fixes and should have those out by the end of the week. It should help with the recent posts about immediate sync failures. I’m also optimizing the speed of the sync to make it happen faster.
Just signed up for VIP specifically to try this. The connection to my server appears, but then the “loading Plex libraries…” just spins.
Checking console, looks like it eventually gets a 504 from Cloudflare for the URL https://trakt.tv/plex/server/accounts?server_id=XXXXXXXXXX(REDACTED)
Update: It does appear to be syncing, but since the user field is blank (and I don’t seem to have anywhere to set it), it looks like it’s syncing all user activity, which is less than ideal since the kids use Plex too.
@StuartGibson - you’ll see a “user” field to the left of the “sync” button, at least I do. ![]()
Yes, this is the problem. I don’t have that. And the “Plex Libraries” just sits on this loading spinner.
Hi.
Same here, just got VIP for plex sync (great idea btw), got everything on green, seeing users and all, but no data synchronized, either at start or during plex actions…. No email no error message of any kind.
Rating seems to be sync to Trakt when changed in plex though. But not watched status.
Hope this wil be solved soon. Good luck with that.
I noticed a bug with watchlist syncing, can you disable that and see if the rest works for you?
This update got bumped to Monday while I test more. I was able to optimize the process quite a bit and make it way faster, especially on the first sync. I also found a watchlist bug that might have been causing the sync process to fail.
@justin - glad that watchlist bug was discovered/remedied; I have never had my watchlists set to sync so a moot point for me, unfortunately.

- I get the email saying to choose/claim a server. I do that
- go into Plex Sync get the red error saying select a server and save settings. I do that, red error goes away.
- Hit Sync, goes to Queued, it eventually errors out
- I get email + choose/claim server error on the Plex Sync page again.
Wash/rinse/repeat.
I’ll be curious if my updates on Monday will improve this. My theory is there is some sort of timeout when doing a full sync of your data. The new update will do significantly less api calls to your Plex server and also re-use the Plex data more effectively too.
I thought that a possible scenario as my server is 140+TB and there’s (potentially) years of data there (purchased my Plex Pass back in 2014).
Not saying it’s going to capture all the way back to then, but with that in mind I’ve tried running it pointing at only 4K TV shows (one of my newer, smaller, and least watched libraries) and the same outcome persists.
But yes, fingers crossed for future updates. Thanks Justin.
I’m receiving a 500 error which is a problem on Trakt’s end. I just paid for VIP and this is what I get? I just want to be able to sync Plex with Trakt.
Confirming that I have a similar issue to nydubber. Can see my server / libraries but then I get the email saying that it got disconnected, have not yet been able to do a full sync. Hoping that this is fixed tomorrow but please advise if any other solutions in the meantime.
Thank you.
I had a sync happen on Friday - I had previously tried doing each library individually, but that was a week ago so talking about it here jogged my memory to try it again versus doing all 4 each time. Did a sync on my smallest library (4K TV) and went out for the evening. Forgot all about it (thanks tequila) but when I sat down the next day I had a welcome surprise of a data sync!
to you, @justin
At that point I did each library individually and all except one (the largest) has worked. On my Movies library there was an initial fail but tried it a 2nd time and it worked. With that in mind I’ve randomly gone back to see if that final one will work, but I think Justin is right, there is likely a timeout issue.
Just messing around with things at that point I undid the first sync to make sure it would pick it up again and it did without issue.
@justin - only other thing of note that I’m seeing; Unlike an unsuccessful sync where both are triggered, after each successful sync the red error on Trakt Plex Sync page pops back up, no email accompanies it. Clicking “save settings” clears the error upon page reload and we’re good to go until the next sync runs. Fine by me as (most) of the syncs work but mentioning all the same for troubleshooting purposes.
- Any chance of opening port 32086? One of my servers should be accessible on 8443 as well as that port but it doesn’t ever seem to work that way. And I can’t change the port on that server.
- Even excluding the server in (1) above the two others which I have reconfigured to 32400 aren’t syncing either.
- Is there any way to see error logs? I am getting constant emails to reconnect account but I have saved and connected multiple times now. Settings show all the correct libraries so something must be connecting somewhere. And it is allowing me to select users too. Yet despite all this not a single sync has happened.
- If “library” setting options for the webhook and plexsync are both selected will that duplicate entries or will the duplicate be ignored as I’m assuming it will have the same timestamp sent from Plex?
Thanks.
EDITED TO ADD: I have temporarily disabled linking PlexSync because it seems for me that enabling it is preventing the webhook from checking in when I start watching something. I verified this with two items.
In my case all 3 servers are owned by me. So there shouldn’t be an authorization issue. There is the possible port issue yet even with that one excluded everything fails completely and as per my edit above, enabling Plex Sync is somehow preventing the webhook from functioning. Which is despite not a single option being enabled for both methods.
I think most of these recent issues are related to a bug with syncing the Plex watchlist, so I’ll be curious if things work better for everyone now with the new updates.
Here are the updates I released today:
- Much improved sync speed, especially for the initial sync. The ongoing syncs should be similar speed since those are already a much smaller amount of data.
- Fixed Plex watchlist sync.
- Better error handling on the Trakt side, so a single failure (i.e. watchlist) won’t prevent the other sections from attempting to sync.
- Handle SSL errors better for Plex servers with a custom domain name.
A few general notes:
- If you’re still having issues, please review your Plex sync settings and re-save them. I adjusted the format of some settings last week related to the multi server support. Saving will make sure it’s in the correct format.
- Also make sure you have your libraries selected correctly. I am seeing several members have failed sync since they haven’t actually selected any libraries to sync.
I just pushed a potential fix for the 500 error. I believe it was caused by having no libraries setup in your Plex media server? Or perhaps the remote connection settings not being correct in Plex?
Confirming final library sync’d on the initial attempt w/no issues;
thanks @justin for the continued work on this and everything else ![]()
Same here, but only 2 mails
I am still seeing issues syncing (i.e I get the emails about the server not being synced) and I don’t believe this captures my whole library.
Could I please get some assistance?
