šŸš€ Trakt Product Update – June & Mid-July 2026

I’ve been away a bit and have een using V2, so I’ve just come back to find out they’ve phased out the library. At this point plex already does everything else I need from trakt, so the inability to now track the format of my physical media erases the last use case for Trakt for me. I’ve taken an export of my data and will spin up something locally to track that.

Unfortunatley due to a billing issue I’m stuck with VIP for a couple more years but I think I’m done here unless something drastic changes. I genuinely don’t know what the use case is for this app now.

Took me 24+ hours, But I’ve completely moved my personal lists off Trakt. V2 was so good for making & maintaining personal lists, & was almost unmatched by any other site out there (Except for 1 site, Which I’ve now moved too). Really tried my best to adjust to V3, But with how much has been gutted since V2, Just not possible in its current state. Im out :waving_hand:

I agree V2 was brilliant. I had spent years gushing praise about trakt to all my friends! There were so many little things that added up to something greater than just the sum of their parts.

It was a key feature on callendar to make sute I … colected everything I should’ve.

I’m normally one of the quiet users, but V3 isn’t the Trakt anymore I signed up to and subscribed to VIP.

Most things have already said here, but my main pain points are:

  • Login via Magic Link, that is only valid for 5 minutes, but the mail sometimes takes over 5 minutes to arrive. Also signing in sometimes doesn’t work and I’m back on the start page, logged out. Very frustrating. Bring back Username + Password login!
  • When I watch something, I have to refresh my profile multiple times until it shows up in the history.
  • Why are the favorites so big at the top? This is the most uninteresting thing I want to see on my profile. Why is the progress per default on finished? I don’t care what I finished, I care what is still in progress.
  • The whole interface is unintuitive and confusing
  • When I’m on a TV Show theres now overview of the seasons anymore. I can’t see which seasons I collected or watched. I also can’t see anymore if I completely collected or watched a sason.
I’m currently watching a series with 35 seasons, where not all episodes are available.
I often looked on the series page in the season list to check the holes in the season and if theres a missing episode I didn’t collect when new ones are published on the mediathek.
  • When I’m on a season I can’t see which I collected (the collected status seems to be completely gone? it was one of the most important information for me)
  • Also on the season page, I don’t see the rating on the episodes, It’s missing from many views and I can’t really see how I rated the episodes without many clicks or if I missed rating one
  • Why are only a few of the episodes shown on the season page? (The number matches the space on the screen).
A horizontal scroll bar like shown on a post above is completely missing (and also not practicable on the desktop).
I know I can click on Seasons to get a panel on the right, but this is way too many clicks, not directly visible (I just found out by accident, because I thought I would get a season list when clicking there) and unusable on desktop
  • No split between regular and guest stars
  • And many more, theres so much wrong with this interface.
This is probably the worst ā€œupdateā€ of a service I’ve ever seen.

I really really liked Trakt, and I really tried to adapt to the V3 interface after I was forced on it, but this is completely unusable. The same reason I stopped using the mobile app after the redesign.

Please just bring back the V2 interface. I also don’t care if it won’t get any new features.
And if you don’t want to maintain it, maybe open source it. There are probably many here in the community who would continue maintaining it.

Now I have to find an alternative that integrates with my Jellyfin (even if I have to write my own plugin).

Looks like the options to sort watchlist got truncated alot as well. Can no longer sort by last watched (Used to see what’s next in my annual rewatches) or random.

I don’t think I need to add anything on the issues with v3, I agree with everyone else on missing everything that has been removed, but what is happening now? I can’t see we’re getting responses anymore, does that mean they’ve stopped saying they’re bringing features back and this is the final version? I don’t see how you can take a product people are paying for, strip out a significant number of features then just say ā€˜tough luck you’ll get used to it’ it’s simply not the same product with a different interface, you cannot do half the thing you used to be able to do

I am another one of the quiet users. When v3 came out I hated it, but still had the option for v2, so I stayed. Now v2 is gone for good and v3 is still terrible. Everything I chose to use Trakt for is now gone in v3. I have been burned by tracking sites before so I actually track on multiple sites and choose 1 that I pay for and is my primary. That WAS Trakt. Unless something changes, and I anticipate it will not, I am moving on when my subscription ends. I have found a replacement that will suffice, they aren’t up to Trakt v2 standards, but at least the devs are engaged with the community and listening. That is one thing that is very telling here, I see no responses to the issues, just a bunch of people being ignored. That is not how you run a community, but is quite expected from the same people who came up with v3.

I dont have any NEW complaints, they all appear to be well documented.

You might have felt the old ā€œv2ā€ needed to be replaced, maybe for security or financial reasons, but it really should have been replaced with a like for like product… It was NOT!

v2 could easily be reinstated and the fact you haven’t done that especially in the face of such a backlash from your ā€œVIPā€ users shows an awful lack of respect for paying customers.

Having been a ā€œVIPā€ user for over a decade the trakt i have used has grown and evolved with user’s suggestions and requests, with functionality key to updates.

I’m sorry to say i feel my only choice is to cancel my ā€œVIPā€ renewal.

I will keep checking for improvements to v3 in the hope it gets the updates required to keep the level of functionality we already had and enjoyed with ā€œv2ā€.

Thanks for pushing me to finally make my own movie/show tracker I guess. Really hoped you guys would do a u-turn on this v3 stuff, but guess not.

I agree with the very well written, thoughtful, and polite post by VIP user px8421 from earlier today.

Do you remember when Trakt’s database crashed? I was reading some of the replies on Trakt’s official X account about it, and it made me realize just how amazing and supportive the community really is.

Guys, you were amazing. The Trakt community deserves better. We need to accept that it’s over and move on.

If I have watched something more than once, it’s normally on purpose because I like it.

I don’t think ā€œclean upā€ is the right word to describe the process of throwing away what I consider to be precious data.

I’d like to see the duplicates listed one by one, with a way to maybe remove individual ones. Not a ā€œbig bang delete them allā€.

Thank You Very Much :folded_hands:

I am struggling with the new V3 but getting there very slowly.

Information like this is a tremendous help for me (an old git and not too techy). I have just looked at my calendar and done exactly what you have and it is soooo much better.

Thank you.

Hmm. I’ve tried to do this but it’s too fiddly (on the website - please don’t ask me to switch to an app).

What a horrible UI. You NOT do it with the mouse. You MUST use the cursor keys on the keyboard to press ā€œdownā€ under ā€œBrazilā€ to show more countries! Either way showing only 6 at a time of a huge list, when the whole screen is available, is nasty.

I’ve just done this on the web on a PC using a mouse. It was quite easy to do.

I’m an old git so believe me it needs to be easy

That’s good, but I really tried hard. Did you need to use the middle wheel? I don’t have one of those on my laptop… not easily available anyway.

(Still hate tiny key-hole droplists when my full screen height is avaiable)

No just clicked on the little down arrow.

But appreciate it’s hard on a laptop I always plug in a mouse, I can not deal with those touch pads.

Thanks for this. If it wasn’t for your post I would have questioned whether I actually submitted my post properly. I don’t know if it’s the same for others, but I can’t see my post now and It doesn’t appear anywhere in my account either. I haven’t received any communication as to why it might have been removed. It took me a long time to consider and write and I don’t usually give feedback as I find communication stressful, but like many other users v2 really has been such a great use and timesaver for me, and I’ve invested so much time into my lists, that I felt I should join those who have taken their time to voice their views. It’s really disheartening if it has been removed. If I said something wrong I can only apologise, but I’d appreciate knowing what that was and having the opportunity to edit my post?

ok thanks - when I clicked on the little down arrow, (and the ā€œupā€), nothing happens. Seems to be buggy.

(I use the track-stick on my lenovo (little joystick between G,H,B) - can’t get on with touchpads at all)
